Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere #24 — Things You Shouldn’t Fry
September 15th, 2012
British cooking, man. British cooking.
Impressions:
Excellent start and a fairly strong finish, only marred by the middle losing a lot of steam. Well, and Tenzou’s whole confession/’fight’ with Mary not being stellar either. Especially compared to Toori/Horizon’s bit at the end of last season. The whole listing out all her issues with him going "I don’t care about that" was just so cliche and seemed to have something that went without saying at least two or three episodes ago. It probably didn’t help that it was followed with a big ol’ infodump about magical swords either. I can’t even turn that into a euphemism for penises. The explosion of flowers does raise some questions though. Juana’s thing was blissfully short too.
Few complaints with the majority of the episode otherwise. Great animation for the fights, the ship battles maintained the high quality from last week, and while the emotional high from Ten/Mary’s ‘climax’ wasn’t quite as high as it should’ve been, it was still better than most shows manage, and the start of it with his detection of the real Mary was amusing enough. I had hoped for a little better from Kimi’s ‘fight’ and maybe a little more between Tenzou and I’ve-Forgotten-Who-That-Was-Supposed-To-Be-Because-He’s-Only-Had-Sixty-Seconds-Of-Screen-Time, but they didn’t handle it badly by any means either. Poor Gin also has to be just about the most sexually frustrated character around at this point too.

Tenzou confession was pretty adorable and the flower garden part very emotional in my opinion.
Yes, it was not Toori confession, but I don’t think that was ever the point. Tenzou and Mary was a classical courtship and it needs this kind of conclusion to work.
