Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere #23 — Kamikaze Anteaters
September 8th, 2012
I wasn’t aware that anteaters were known for their explosive capabilities.
Impressions:
Mostly a solid episode, although there weren’t any particularly high moments, which means that I’m going to point out a lot of niggling little things. I didn’t really expect the rematch of the war of words to turn into giant mecha, but hey, it’s a vast improvement over the previous one. I still feel like the narrating runs counter to the attempts to make the fight actually emotional though. It did get a little better towards the end, but I just really don’t think you can use that style of fighting and have it so divorced from the characters that they’re using giant robots somewhere in the background and have it all come together. …And I’ve never really cared much for Shakespeare or their attempts to build up any kind of drama around her anyway. That probably also did not help.
Neit’s atempt at a werewolf howl to the moon was also pretty cringe-worthy, not to mention that her fight was also disappointingly short compared to how things went last time. Plus the kind of silly ending with a shivering, wimpering little thingy. I prefer not to think about how Kimi’s push-up bra remains intact against barrier. If it didn’t bounce so much, I’d assume her chest was just made out of titanium. As I said though, it was an engaging episode overall. They did the ship to ship combat significantly better this week and the action was well animated and continuous almost the whole way through with only a couple asides/flashbacks jammed in awkwardly. Hopefully they can keep it up or improve on it for the culmination of Tenzou’s stuff next week.
