Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere #21 — Extremely Sharp Pillows
August 25th, 2012
You’re not fooling anybody, Tomo.
Impressions:
Another not-exactly-exciting setup episode for Spain’s invasion. Certainly a step or two up from last week’s episode, but still well below what this show can do. If Star Trek has taught me nothing about diplomacy and negotiations, it’s that they break down within the first 30 seconds. Actually, I think that holds for all diplomacy in every single piece of media outside of Japan. This one at least seemed to start well enough on that track, with the newbie barging in and proceeding to blatantly steal England’s silverware, but it dropped off quickly after that with the only other excitement in the first half coming from Toori’s usual antics and Tomo trying to pretend like she cuddles with a WMD.
The second half was more or less of the same, right down to the introduction of a random new character who is about 70% legs, so she matched well with Naomasa who is 50% arm and Neit who is 95% hair. Toss in some random flashbacks/exposition about the Queen’s past because infodumping is well known to be the most emotive form of storytelling, spice it with a little bit of hitting Masazumi with her hat, finish things with Toori grinding his crotch against Excalibur while most of England watches patiently for him to finish and hopefully we’ll get to the invasion next week.

I still think her hair is actually several Mothra cocoons, and her ultimate attack will be to sing a song to hatch them.
