Love, An Election, and Chocolate #02 — Domestic Violence

July 12th, 2012

A blow for anime men everywhere.

All the TBS shows had their broadcasts delayed a little while today, and that’s practically everything but the noitaminA stuff (although it was delayed too, but for different reasons… I think). I have a quick meeting on campus in a little bit, so Joshiraku will be delayed an hour or two until I get back.

Impressions:

Not a terribly eventful episode, just a couple minutes at the very end of "You’re all helping." It was mostly just Yuuki wandering around and literally running into the rest of his harem along with their associated introductions. …Occasionally the male members too, including accidentally trying to hit on them. As with the first episode, I continue to really like the character interactions and humor though. The waking up scene this time was actually quite good. He rightfully called her a pervert for sneaking into his bed and getting sleep-groped and then violently tossed her out while she took it all in stride. The bit at the end about watching him eat chocolate in the middle of the night was a little odd though. I’m sure it was meant to be meaningful or foreshadow in some way some terrible terrible chocolate-related event from her past, but it was just too strange for it to come off as anything but weird.

The rest was more hit or miss. The art did get a little more off-model this week than last, but it otherwise remained fairly well done. Rival girl was fine, although the eternal shots of the hem of her shirt and him leering at it got a little obtrusive. She got a little preachy and less amusing as the episode went on too, but again, it’s nice that she actually gets along with him and they can tease each other without all turning into stammering blushing messes. Clumsy squeaky non-food club girl (I really need to start learning names) was… well, let’s just say I’m glad her bit was short.

Annoying the competition.

This show seems to be the real deal. I have expected it to die a horrible death after ep1 ala Nyaruko, but luckily we have been spared that fate. Definitely looking forward to more of this.
