Wow. They must’ve blown the budget last week on that ‘fight.’

Impressions:

Yawn. YAWWWWWWWWWWWWN. This may have been the most underanimated episode of the show to date. And the titular character didn’t even bother to show up. Everybody stood around talking about how awesome she is for the first third of the episode before it was time to go help the Shogi club clean up their room and solve a little spat between two of them. All done by standing around and just outright stating "I’m pissy." And then solved with a horrendously corny "What would Medaka do?" Cue the usual generic chunk of "Are you stupid? Your confidence is pissing me off. You have no idea what you’re doing. Your spirit has touched me." And everybody lived happily ever after explained the true meaning of friendship and believing in each other. Or whatever. I really just don’t care.

‘Final’ Thoughts:

I know I’m really going far out on a limb here, but this was pretty bad. Even if they solved the problems of the woeful budget, poor humor, and often weird music, there’s still the 7,000 pound hippo of its pacing problems strapped to the show’s neck. Nothing is said in one sentence that can’t be said in four, repeated incredulously by another character, flashed back to later, and then rehashed with a new character an episode later. And god help us if they just show anything at all instead of making sure that everything is explicitly stated… at length. And often repeated. There’s so much exposition that the characters barely even have personalities under it all.

I guess I can leave things off there as a list of stuff the show needs to fix. It’s already confirmed that it’s continuing, but unless they can solve those problems (or it once again airs on the same day as a bunch of nonsense), I don’t think I’ll be continuing, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. As far as this season goes, I have troubles even remembering what the hell happened most weeks. I spent awhile trying to remember if the swimming pool arc was two or three episodes and I’m still not sure. Being utterly forgettable before your show is even over is really not a good thing.
