Persona 4 #21 — Talking to Doors

March 1st, 2012

At least the show’s finally moving again.

Impressions:

Another fairly by-the-books episode. I kind of miss the ones where AIC was adding their own twists and variations… not all of them, lest we forget how Naoto’s shadow went, but the long segments where characters just stand around and talk things out… this time literally standing around a door, could not have possibly been more bland. Yada yada, ‘culprit’ revealed, standing around and confirming it, then super ultra confirming it, as if the first confirmation and disappearing into a TV weren’t already enough. All the repetition was bad enough in the game, but at least you could scan through it as fast as you could read.

And of course, since there were cars in this episode, we got to experience one of Japan’s amazing awesome super special CG car chase blowouts. I’ve said it before, but I will never understand why as soon as automobiles are involved, everything about the show’s art style or previous use of CG gets chucked out the window. Is this some weird bylaw in their artist union? All vehicles must be CG? Do they not teach people how to draw wheels? Are they all desperately trying to revive Initial D? What’s the deal here, Japan? Maybe all the talking heads and CG cars were just saving up for the fight against Mesiah-Shadow boy.

…I can dream, can’t I?

Preview:

Nanako’s heaven.

Still not sure how they’re going to finish this plus Margret’s social link in 4 episodes. Maybe they’ll go for the normal end.
