Shana â…¢#06 — Satou’s Magical Friendship Adventure
November 11th, 2011
In a CG hotel no less.
Impressions:
Yawn, another ‘setup’ episode centered around characters that I either could not care less about or completely new characters that doesn’t even really set anything up. They’re trying to use the Flame Hazes fidgeting around and explaining how serious things are to show how this arc is so super serious, but well, copy/paste any post I’ve written on Horizon for almost the last month. Characters first, setting second. You can’t just sit here and tell me how everything is so important. There has to be an actual connection to the characters themselves. And that doesn’t mean introduce new ones haphazardly just to spew out exposition along with flashbacks. It doesn’t even feel like they’re trying with these Flame Hazes either. Mr. Dapper’s power wasn’t shown, but Levica’s power was making energy balls. How very very zzzzzzzzzzzzz…
Anyway, while Shana is held captive by evil disco overlord Yuuji in the world of monsters, Satou making friends with Flame Hazes and seeing flashbacks about their pasts is not where the story should be. At least they’re keeping up their usual modus operandi; if it’s an exposition episode, show Shana taking a bath. I don’t know why JC Staff has settled into this pattern, nor am I certain that they’re even conscious of it, but I’m really starting to wonder about them. What is it about power point episodes that connects in their brains to "Shana needs to get naked and wet"? And then apparently fight Hecate, still naked until Disco Yuuji steps in. Well, it’s got to be better than this was.

Saturday night fever.

It seems flashbacks are so popular now that every single show has to have at least one…
Speaking of flashbacks… Aroduc, did you still see the other show that’s merely about flashbacks? Things got a little “serious” but what catch me my attention is that your commentary about that they only show bad fathers and not mothers is now invalid in the recent episode…
Anyways, back to Shana… Exposition = 210% more talking heads? isn’t the point to animate things to do the narration through visuals? Perhaps, that’s too expensive to do for the companies >.<
