I Don’t Have Many Friends #01 — Foot Fetish

October 6th, 2011

Seriously… what’s with all the shots of his feet?

Impressions:

Well, it’s certainly better made than the episode 0 OVA was and actually fairly well animated. On the other hand, all that stood out there was the blatant pandering and that’s gone. In its place is minute after excrutiating minute of Kodaka narrating his life for the sake of the audience. The closest it comes to making a joke in the first 18 minutes of the episode is using loud and annoying sound effects for scene transitions. Not even sensical transitions either. There’s a screen wipe between Yozora opening up her bag and taking out a notebook. The transition took about as long as it would have to actually show the act. Someone fell asleep at the storyboarding I think. Well, even when the characters are endlessly chattering onward, the director clearly got bored at times. Either that, or an alarm went off at AIC that they had gone 3 minutes without showing heaving breasts so they had to cut away to some random girls exercising outside while the conversation continued unabated. Or my favorite, an empty shed. I think it’s a metaphor for the show itself.

I guess that it’s a little different from my previous opinion on it, but it’s just sideways movement, not an improvement, and my overall impression hasn’t changed much. This episode just plays up the blatant self-insert character instead of the T&A and is practically made of him and Yozora monologuing to each other. It does improve slightly towards the end when Chesty appears just by dint of having actual character interaction instead of endless lectures while Self-Insert stands there like a slackjawed yokel. The music deserves some note for managing to be obnoxious and stand out in a season already seemingly characterized by terrible scoring.

So… bleh. Still the same shameless pandering show targeted at lonely boys who know it’s not their fault that they’re lonely as the preview episode was. The characters are still obviously just flimsy cardboard standups, and it doesn’t even try to be funny or show enough skin to be notable at either. Like I said, bleh.

  • Kaisos says:

That is possibly the worst opening I’ve seen in years.

  • Wilfriback says:

I agree, but the ED is quite good.

  • Anonymous says:

i get the feeling you don´t like this

  • Anise_Punter says:

The worst opening in years? How did you lot miss Denpa Onna and Kaito Tenshi Twin Angel in like the last six months?

    It’s not good, though.

  • AfroSquirrel says:

Butterflies make great hairdecs, apparently. I wonder how well other critters work?

    Dragonfly: Could work
    Spider: Only if villainess
    Cockroach: No
    Earwig: Wrath of Khan
Cicada: At least they’d have an excuse for dropping cicada noises after every other scene transition

  • Rincewind says:

    Pretty boring episode, must say.
    Is the manga any good?
