Guilty Clown #03 — …This Will Surely Make Things Better

October 27th, 2011

Because, you know, when in doubt, add clowns.

Impressions:

Let me see if I understand this master plan of Shuu’s. He has a special secret power, and needs to covertly use it to go find a magical widget. So to test out to see if he can do it, he tries to ambush a girl he knows because he knows that she’ll let him off if he screws up. He lurks in wait for her, then in his ‘secret’ attack, he leaps out, grabs the wrong girl, grabs her breast, and looks around and there are about thirty people watching them. So then he changes his tactics and decides to run at people in a headlong charge while screaming his bloody head off. And the worst part? It apparently works.

…And then he pulls a refrigerator out of one of them.

And then his friend who he came to an understanding with in apparently some kind of offscreen meaningful talk immediately betrays him. And let me tell you how surprised I was that the only character that had more than two lines was the one they were looking for. I had to go lay down for a little while, my heart was so stunned.

Oh yeah, and the new villain is a clown. A clown that hangs people upside down. Not that I have anything wrong with clowns, mind you. It’s actually almost refreshing to see some antagonists that are unlikely to have tragic backstories and are just evil. Where the hell are the Imperial Stormtroopers or Smaug or generic-terrorist-that-will-inevitably-be-nutpunched-by-Jack-Bauer in anime anyway? Nothing’s wrong with a little evil for evil’s sake. Well, at least if your main character isn’t suck. Again, I’m still hoping that one of these lunatics knifes Shuu in the penis. If they can even find it.

Well then, I see we have a new frontrunner for the best comedy of the season. One can only hope it lives up to the same high standards Producton IG set with Blood-C. Maybe this wll have rabbit clowns as the final boss. Wouldn’t that be a treat? But hey, at least it wasn’t a flashback episode with yet another new character tossed in out of nowhere.

so Aroduc, is this the WORST anime of the season?

  • moridin84 says:

Well it was probably a toss up between maids and clowns and maids have been done too much recently.

  • moridin84 says:

The fact that no one seems to care that the super-hot super-famous singer is following Shu around like a lost puppy is rather indicative of their… creative writing style as well.

You just watched one molest a random girl then go berserk on the crowd of innocent passerbys.

“Nothing’s wrong with a little evil for evil’s sake.”

I can’t even really think of _any_ recent anime that have done this off the top of my head. Any suggestions? Maybe I’m not wracking my brain hard enough.

    • moridin84 says:

Does Hisoka from Hunter X Hunter count as ‘recent’?

Also the bad guy from Blood-C seems pretty evil for no real reason.

    • Nanaya says:

The first season of bakatest had that one cheater guy being an asshole because he could.

Saya from blood-c. Yes, I consider (narcissistic self-angsting) inaction as evil when it involves keeping every innocent life in a 10 block radius from easily averted slaughter.

About 1/3 the cast of fate/zero once it finally moves past the bloody intro. Including Kiritsugu.

That dog from that show I can’t remember much of, where the hero was force-summoned by it then told that he agreed to the fine print retroactively by being summoned and couldn’t go back. Series was more lighthearted, but I still found that a real dick move for no point other than ‘because screw you.’

Anime is full of chaotic evil assholes if you’re cynical enough and ignore the poor writing trying to excuse it.

      • moridin84 says:

In Dog Days? I don’t think the dog was actually all the intelligent and I’m pretty sure it didn’t talk.

To be honest, I don’t know why they thought that sending the dog was a good idea, normally that role is taken up by girls like Inori. I mean they aren’t too talkative either but still…

  • burnout says:

I honestly felt this was a surprisingly good episode. The ‘offscreen meaningful talk’ works, because *it’s bullshit*. Every word of it was a lie, as Sugar was planning to sell Shu’s ass out.

Ooh, I think I just found my new favorite Guilty Crown blog.

  • du5k says:

What’s wrong with Clowns? They make excellent villians. He’ll be the one to put a smile on Shu’s silly face.
