Sacred Seven #02 — My Pet Rock

July 9th, 2011

Can’t be a magical girl without your wacky magical pet!

Impressions:

Still trying to figure out what to do with Saturdays this season without any show making a particularly strong case for anything besides ironic viewing. They did undermine some of what they showed last week by revealing that Arma was apparently being bullied by what appeared to be an entire platoon before he went berserk. Yeah, beating them all up was probably overkill, but since this is a Sunrise show, there’s at least an 80% chance that they’re hiding somewhere in the background, just waiting for the chance to put on opera masks and make their grand return. As a magical girl, Arma also got his magical pet this episode too, as well as the quest to save Ruri’s sister from the rock she’s stuck in.

Unfortunately though, the action this week was shorter and much weaker. The maid army and corny suit were bad enough even before he got a magical pet rock that creates emoticons and started sky surfing? And he apparently saved Ruri when she was a little girl too? So they’re tossing in a childhood friend angle on top of it? They’re still taking this entirely too seriously. This could easily be quite an amusing little light-hearted action comedy if not for Arma being such a wet towel over the whole affair. Next week does seem a bit better though, introducing someone else like Arma, only apparently with a personality. Hopefully I’ll figure out Saturdays by then.

Nice cravat.

I saw this and the ‘lets all go to the movies’ song started playing in my head. I can no longer unsee it.

His magical Pet Rock isn’t as annoying and irritating compared to percentage majority.

No Mega Man ZX jokes then.

That would be as hell as funny. Hell yeah to the subs. Hellatstic.

I still don’t get the point of the whole rock club angle. They still haven’t done anything with it. If they just wanted to show Arma becoming more social, there are easier, less time-consuming ways to do it. I suppose it sets up for a rock girl – Arma – Ruri triangle, but none of the three are compelling in the least.
