Idiots, Tests, and Summoned Beasts #16 — Ms. Irrelevant

Are we fighting again yet? No? Meh.

Impressions:

Well, at least they’re back in school. That’s a slight step in the right direction. Unfortunately, they still haven’t remembered to get back to what made this show stand out. There was the brief teasing of it with the exercising sequence at the start of the long flashback, but that was it. The actual meat of the episode was split between two side characters that hadn’t even been seen in this season to date. Hell, I think the two of them had a total of 45 seconds of screen time combined in the OVAs. Now that says "important characters."

The first half was more focused on Yuuko, but it was mostly just the same Hideyoshi jokes as usual, or directly targeting her instead of females in general. Ten straight minutes of that is a bit much. The second half was Hazuki’s first meeting/past with Yoshii along with Himeji stalking him from the shadows. I don’t think I ever even cared or wondered about Hazuki’s past with Yoshii to begin with, and certainly not enough to have an entire half of an episode dedicated to it, mostly without any attempts at comedy whatsoever. The haze filter over the entire thing to show that it was a flashback was also irritating as hell.

3 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

How does it feel, to be funded by J-List?

      Might be aroused.

How does it feel, to treat me like you do? Na-na-na-na, na-nuuu, na-na-na-naaa-

I’m not quite sure what’s going on with the direction here, actually. It wasn’t terrible so much as… Not present? Beh.
