Countless Cat Gods #04 — Phantasmagoria of Dim Dream

July 29th, 2011

Concealed the Conclusion is probably more apt.

Impressions:

I’m not sure why I’m still watching this. Probably because it’s on Friday nights after I burn through the papers I need to do for the weekend and my brain begins to shut down. My biggest issue with the show is that Mayu is just… awful. Everything centers around her, but the forumla’s always the same and Mayu has absolutely no comedic chemistry with anybody or anything except perhaps the Genesis. Yuzu doesn’t either, but at least I’m not expected to laugh at her lack of antics. I don’t really feel much of anything for her either, but she doesn’t get anywhere near the focus.

I suppose I should actually talk about the episode itself. This one showed at least a little creativity with its presentation of Mayu and the Dream God as cats unable to communicate with Yuzu in her dream, but if you don’t already know how I feel about flashback episodes and particularly flashback episodes used to suddenly dump in melodrama that the character has already overcome or has never cared about before now, then I suggest turning back now before my madness envelopes you. I guess this was supposed to be touching or something but I doubt I can dredge up any emotions on a dream-sequence flashback that lasted about five minutes total and I doubt will ever be mentioned ever again.

Isint the title a Touhou game?

I realised last episode that this isn’t a comedy.
I sure hope it isn’t supposed to be one…

  • Albedo says:

Glad I’ve avoided this so far. Thanks for continuing to watch it so I don’t have to.
