A Bridge to the Starry Sky #12 — Wasps and Floats
June 26th, 2011
Yes. I see. Your CG isn’t bad. Move on.
Impressions:
Exactly the kind of ending this show deserves. For some reason, the guy who doesn’t have any clue about the festival is given the leading role in acting out the little love affair story that they mentioned in the opening episodes then proceeded to forget… opposite Tsumugi, who pretended to be sick at the last second, forcing Teeny Weeny and the Ravenous Hosebeast to shout their love to each other across a crowd while everybody cheers. Then the OP played. I’m not sure that scene could have been more contrived or corny if they were actively trying. Maybe they were. That’s a disquieting thought.
Pathetically though, that’s supposed to be the big climax to the sordid love affair. Ui’s brother and all that nonsense plays no part in it. Just an entire village goading them on. The credits were better than the entrie rest of the episode. All the mothers were rubbing themselves all over Ayumu, Daigo’s mother was becoming an angry drunk, Hina was molesting Koyori, and Madoka was lezzing out with Hinata while watching Ui and Beef Tips make out. That’s how I choose to remember it and I will accept it no other way.
Final thoughts, such as they are, at the bottom.
Final Thoughts:
Honestly, do I even need to say anything? If this wasn’t airing on a dull Sunday evening, I wouldn’t have given it a second look and that would have been the right idea, which just goes to show that I’ll watch almost anything as long as it airs after dinner when I’m fed. It was at its best when it was at its worst. The less sense it tried to make and the more it focused on its strengths, being stupid and fanservice, the more stomachable it was, but it was never threatened to be actually good. They really should have just ditched all the relationship nonsense and random drama and just focused on chibi randomness and jokes about every single character wanting to bag Ayumu… especially the males.
I guess the best compliment I can give to it is that it’s appropriately unambitious. It doesn’t succeed at anything, but it’s difficult for me to believe that they were trying hard at any part of it. At this point, I’ve now put more thought into this show than the creators probably did, so that’s a good a spot as any to call it quits and go do something more intelligent… maybe I’ll spend the evening rubbing raw chicken all over my clean plates. Mmmm… raw chicken…

With how much salt water and chemicals/hormones that are in raw chicken compared to the petroleum and other stuff in dish soap, it would probably be healthier in the long run…
