Under the Innocent Sky #05 — High Fantasy

May 1st, 2011

I’m ready to go back to the cafe now.

Impressions:

What? No parody fanservice heavy introductory scene? I feel cheated somehow. It probably would have helped things too because this episode was fairly devoid of… well… everything. I do like Asuka a bit. Setting aside her fairly arbitrary decision to focus on and go out with Takashi, she’s open, friendly, confident, and generally good-natured. Takashi on the other hand is basically just a motile lump of clay. As the original personality of the group, it’s more interesting to me when his control starts to slip, but other than one of the first scenes, it mostly pitches him into Gretagard, his fantasy world, instead of letting aspects of the other personalities take over.

Speaking of Gretagard, the world that he’s summoned to as "Hawk," that’s where the other half of the episode takes place, with more characters thrown at you than you’d find in a Japanese dictionary. Most of them are carryovers from Takashi’s life in new roles, half of which (himself included) have new names. That could have been better handled too though. As the Gretagard segments went on, they just kept getting more and more silly until the last one was outright schtick. With only about ten minutes of introduction to an entirely new set of cast and characters, a little consistency in tone and presentation would have been nice.

OK, seriosuly, what IS this show?

  • raikitsune says:

I completly agree. wtf is happening in this show i have seen every episode and have no idea.

  • Moogy says:

The Gretagard stuff is even sillier in the game.

Pay attention to the nametags: http://privatepaste.com/137a009ed2

How about you morons sit back and watch the plot unfold steadily instead of whining about what’s going on in every fucking single episodes? Or nowadays anime viewers wanna be spoonfed for everything? That was the same shit with Denpa Shoujo, where’s the suspense and anticipation if you already knew what’s gonna happen? If you genuinely have no fucking idea about what’s going on even after watching this ep, or even the 4th, then it’s better to drop this because your brain’s clearly unable to draw connections or formulate any logical assessment in order to comprehend things w/o being told, or spoonfed.

    • Honoo says:

Screw suspense, the in-thing is now that everyone knows what’s going to happen.

That’s why we have those who already knew what’s going to happen spoiling stuff.

      Heh heh.

    • Alastor says:

Silly Anon gets butthurt cuz his little animu doesn’t get the praise it deserves, or do you like to play the pretentious fool card. Maybe next time I will post a full spoiler of how “great” the story is, since you obviously didn’t play the VN.

      • Anonymous says:

Yes, I didn’t play the VN. But aren’t YOU the pretentious fool for thinking “Oh I’m holier-than-thou just cuz I’m a fucking geek who played the VN”? You know that directors CAN sometimes make an original plot right? Until I see the end of this anime and its entire plot in order to ascertain how “great” this is, I will keep my opinion regarding what was shown thus far, which is pretty good; if you pay attention to anything other than staring at the girls’ crotch, that is.

And if butthurt the best insult your poor brain can come up with, then it’s NOT if you can at least read what I wrote, which apparently isn’t the case. I don’t care if this anime doesn’t get any praise because overrated stuffs are shit most of the time anyway; what bothers me is the fact that idiots keep swarming in here whining about how this doesn’t make any sense to them since ep 1.

        • Alastor says:

Yes rage moar, over such trivial things. Also good to know that everybody who plays VN’s are “fucking geeks”. Seriously Aroduc, your blog attracts so much troll bait XD.

        • Aroduc says:

Better than attracting an endless torrent of comments like “FIRST,” “OMG ANOTHER EPIC EPISODE,” or my favorite, the drama queens and “I know this was just the first episode, but it moved me to tears and this will revolutionize the anime industry.”

        • Anonymous says:

LOL running out of arguments so now resorting to label others “trolls” and trying to be “grown-up” by playing some weak sarcasm eh? Funny loser XD

  • Takebou says:

I know this is a bit early, but you looking forward to Fate/Zero this year, Aroduc?

  • Vin says:

No shusuke??? i want to see tamaizumi

  • Jack says:

Actually, the best way to troll this blog is to write positively of each show as Aroduc lines them up for evisceration. If you can mute his slashing with polysyllabic intelligence and without resting on some flash meme that you grifted from Reddit or 4chan, then your troll is a success.

    • FlameStrike says:

Eh I don’t know, everyone has their own opinions, would doing that really count as a troll? I know Aroduc is pretty harsh at times, but most of the time his criticism has a good reason. For example, he complained about a lot of valid stuff in Angel Beats. The pacing was just HORRIBLE. Although I still loved the show thanks to the characters. Everyone’s opinion is different, and they value different things above others.
