Dog Days #06 — Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall

May 7th, 2011

Stop taking advice from mirrors.

Impressions:

Unsurprisingly, another interstitial episode where practically nothing happens until a cliffhanger at the very end about Shinku and Milly being killed in a month, which is why Leon’s so… whatever. She’s trying to prevent that future by… conquering Biscotti? There’s also the chance that Shinku and Milly are face-down in marinara after a particularly awkward spaghetti incident. Honestly though, evil mirrors? When has listening to a mirror ever resulted in anything good happening? Even when Milly was telling Shinku how one told her about him, the bloody thing was giving off an evil glow. At least they’re not Save Points. God only knows how weird this show could get if FATE ended up being behind it in order to win a war with the heretofore unseen lizard people from another timeline. Actually… that wouldn’t surprise me at all.

The other 21 minutes of the episode… eh… Nothing happened. Milly’s endless tail wag was cute, but nothing that went on really added to the characters at all. Shinku was molested by some maids and if he doesn’t have chocobo envy, he should… and that’s about it. He sparred with Eclair in front of some bizarrely badass generics, went fishing, had dinner with Milly, and not a whole ton else. Becky remains angsty and serving no point in the show as well. I wish they’d just summon her already or something. I could easily see her going slightly nuts when she finds out Shinku’s been living it up, petting dogs willy nilly, while she was sobbing into her pillow. Or perhaps she’s one of the lizard people from the other dimension…

I can already feel the cliche ending… “Wait, you mean my actions are what caused the future I saw?! NOOO!!!” *sigh* Seriously, every time…

Oh well, at least there were a few days of happy nothingness and awesome hott samurai. I love the tails, they just make everything so ridiculously fluffy-sweet. Eclair’s brother wanting her and Shinku to hook up was good too, but the maids chiding Milli beat all.

Hey look, it just adopted a horrible Madoka-esque grim shit.

Seriously, you missed out alot on Madoka Arudoc. This show is trying to steal some of Shinbo’s flavour by adding some dark Nitroplus death prediction because Madoka became the new Evangelion and shit like that.

Wow does your memory just stop two months into the past or something? Terrible prophecies have been a fantasy cliche for as long as there’s been fantasy (or myth. see: all of Norse mythology).

Hell, StrikerS did the prophecy thing, and Dog Days stole a ton of its design from Nanoha. If you want to accuse them of ripping off something recent and not just being generally cliche, StrikerS makes a lot more sense than Madoka.
