A Bridge to the Starry Sky #04 — Bloomer Invasion

May 1st, 2011

Suddenly… everywhere.

Impressions:

This was kind of all over the place, but hey… the less focus on Little Dick and the fewer weird uncomfortable scenes with his brother, the better. Well… I’d like to say that, but most of it was still fairly insipid. It was a little better produced (although still plenty of shots like this) and contained slightly fewer moments of being abjectly horrible though, so it’s stepping up slightly. They sort of introduced Hina this week, although all that LD did was fall on top of her, apologize, hit on her cellphone strap, and then later introduce himself, and sort of expanded on the still-irritating Koyori. All Hina seems to do so far is blush, pretend like stuffed animals are talking to her, and attract lesbians.

Most of the rest was eaten up by random chatter. The show has little enough going on as it is without random tossing in yet more local legends. I did like the random chibi bits though, short as they were. They were very Koihime-esque and actually made the show feel just a little less generic for a few seconds. They also showed the start of Hina’s introduction at the start from two different angles before and after the OP, which I guess is notable because it was the first sign of the director getting off their butt and doing something. Something stupid as it turns out, but it was something.

10 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Nanaya says:

I wonder what it would be like to have a protagonist with enough brain synapses to not fall over, bump into or get hit by everything in their path.

    • Newprimus says:

You get Yuuji from Grisaia no Kajitsu, which is an eroge also getting an anime adaptation coming later this year.

  • Chen says:

I’m beginning to think it’s a courtship ritual in Japan. Bonus points if you can smack her on the lips!

Also, drinking game! Take a shot when 1) Landlady takes a potshot at his masculinity; 2) he falls on top of someone; 3) Tsumugi’s breasts shake violently; 4) Ui remembers her kiss *cue flashback*; 5) Madoka blushes and kicks his ass, and last but not least; 6) they zoom in on Ayumu’s bare skin, take two shots if his nipples are visible.

    • Aex says:

Damn, you’d have alcohol poisoning before episode 3!

      • Nanaya says:

That’s nothing. Try these for drinking games:

        1) White Album manga. Take a drink every time you see a cliche phrase, setting, scenario, plot setup/twist/point, etc.

        2) Kimiiro Focus manga. Take a drink every time something so stupid or ‘what-the-hell’ happens you have to smile or laugh.

People on IRC are concerned that I’m suicidal because of these.

“Tsumugi’s giant breasts and hips do not fit through the obstacle course.”

Okay, _that_ was stranger to read than the one about Nobunaga’s boobs.

  • The Phantom says:

I dont understand why a brothers relationship is portrayed this way, in Japan are sibling relationship this close? I barely speak to my half brothers… siblings are supposed to fight and not get along, I certainly avoid them if I can.

    • Aex says:

Most of the time one sibling needs the care of the other, so they’re portrayed as abnormally close. You almost never see “normal” siblings in anime.

  • Aex says:

All over the place really is the best way to describe this episode. Pretty much NO focus, just trying to be slice-of-life suddenly.

Also, Hina is love!! She was barely there for 2 seconds, but she’s already my absolute favorite. Her and Tsumugi.

    • Aex says:

Oh, I did enjoy how Ui turned into Charmander when she eat. That was really outta nowhere, but stupidly hilarious all the same.
