Dog Days #03 — Economics 101

April 16th, 2011

Economy in this show confuses me too.

Impressions:

Unsurprisingly since this is Seven Arcs and they handle show momentum and pacing with the grace that one typically handles a rabid pregnant greased porcupine, this episode was fairly dull. It is nice that Shinku bounced back fairly quickly from his depression and that they’re moving on to another ‘battle’ with Leon’s brother ‘kidnapping’ Milly, but most of the episode was still spent on Eclair simply telling him about the world, a brief montage of shopping, another montage of Milly practicing singing, and naked Milly. The dogs are okay for their general cheerfulness and lack of caring all that much about being seen naked, but going to just them after Hot Pants is still highly disappointing. Plus, I think the actual dogs in this world are smarter than the dog-people, which is starting to make one owning the other even weirder than it already is.

There’s really not a whole ton else other than some very dull specifics about the world. There are weird spirits, they can open portals and send cell-phone signals through but not Shinku, he didn’t read the fine print on the summoning circle, etc. It wasn’t as dry as just a bunch of talking heads, but it wasn’t exactly interesting either, nor am I entirely certain what the point of the weird little bubble spirits was even supposed to be. That part in particular reeked of them suddenly realizing that they had to fill an extra 30 seconds and tossed in some intern’s doodles. Hopefully we’ll get a nice fight between Shinku and his new rival next week though. Or at least some action from the Zettai Karen Animals.

TROLLED THE FUCK OUT OF SHINKU.

    They are absolutely lovely!
    That’s why they won’t woof!

This is gonna be one of those shows where the episodes never actually end, isn’t it? Just a whole lot of “cliffhangers”. Other then that annoying fact, not bad. The whole kidnapping setup is pretty lame though, so I’m not expecting much from Leon’s brother.

  • Nanaya says:

I’m still struggling to get over the fact that their ‘wars’ are afternoon tea socials. It’s like he was dumped in the middle of happy-go-lucky-ville. Yes, for some reason this is causing me stress. I think I’ve become too cynical for these types of series. Should probably start keeping an eye on that.

Well, they mentioned real wars in the past, and they’re foreshadowing pretty fucking hard that there’s going to be real wars in the future, so your inner cynic should be assuaged pretty soon.

I did find it hilarious that VIP-kidnapping was part of their international treaty, and that doing so abides by the rules… These people really account for everything! Next thing you know, there’ll be an international anti-Demon Lord fund set up for just that situation.
