Idiots, Tests, and Cooking With Chemistry

August 7th, 2010

This would probably be funnier if I remembered any Chem at all.

Impressions:

The fourth Bakatest DVD brings us Himeji hosting a cooking show and the Shaft staff really made their presence known by substituting actual shots of people cooking instead of animating those parts. This DVD special is mainly notable for being the first pretty weak one I’ve seen in any show in a long time, pure fanservice stuff from Juuden and LxB notwithstanding. Of course, I’ve taken about two Chem courses in my life and the sulphuric acid et all only comes to mind after a moment of careful study, which kills any joke.

http://blog.seiha.org/images2/bakadvd4/bakadvd4_44.jpg I am neither a Japanese speaker nor a true chemist, but this screenshot seems to refer to:

王水 > Ousui > Royal Water > Aqua Regia, the acid strong enough to dissolve gold.

    –That doesn’t sound good.

Yeah. Cooking with those ingredients… isn’t advisable. If you want anyone to live, at least.

It seems like it would work on a drawing board, but anyone with half an inch’s worth of survival instinct would know better. Which stays in line with what we already know from this series.

Survival instinct = the basis of good cooking, btw.

Reminds me of Ayahime’s in Nikuja cooking exercise lawl.

I found this particular image terrifying and I don’t know why. I’m pretty sure I saw it in my nightmare and awoke with a cold sweat.

Perhaps Himeji truly is concentrated evil.

From experience, strong acids can and will volatilize in high concentrations, especially under heat, so she should be retching from fumes already…
