No chubby pussies this week either!

Impressions:

This felt like a bit of a bizarrely placed episode. Right from the start, they retcon the end of last week’s episode and crowbar in about three minutes of Takumi talking to Nozomi about his past before Fumino shows up and instead of the dramatic moment, yells out that she forgot something and snatches a hairpin (I think) off a table. Then a little later, we get Fumino’s love/hate/love confession to Takumi as the reason Nozomi ran off followed by about another three minutes of Captain Monologue using his super power to defeat the villain Withering Budget.

It was still an okay episode, but it was a bit overblown for something that popped up in just this episode. I’m not sure whether to say that that made it feel overly machinated or entirely too fast, but awkward is a good start. I’m also a bit disappointed that after Takumi tried to talk to Fumino about her confession, she very happily tells him it was a lie and flicks his nose. Damn resets to the status quo. I hate resets to the status quo. Let development stick, damn it. At least Takumi did try to talk to her about it instead of waffling around. Sadly, thanks to the angst quotient being cranked up to max for this episode, there wasn’t all that much humor, but there wasn’t too much of the irritating glasses guy either. No surprise Horie Yui attacks for that matter… le sigh.

12 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

Well, I get what you mean, but to me this was a totally outstanding episode. Its pacing and storytelling, which I admit could seem odd, seemed unique and wonderful to me.

This show is certainly giving us memes we may be familiar with, but it is giving them to us in new ways. I found the episode emotionally powerful (I guess that’s the “angst” you refer to), as well as being very high-class sentimental moe.

By the way, since we have an honest confession already in episode three, we know that the reset is not complete. That brilliant smile in your last screencap shows her so happy. The feelings are complex and fascinating. But we already know she has always loved him, and continues to love him, whatever she says at any given time.

all i can say is, luckiest guy ever…

I don’t know, it seemed very meh and at least twice I found myself thinking that I would’ve smacked Serizawa one good if she wasn’t so damned cute.

Hey, how come we didn’t get a Dr. Who recap on Saturday? I feel totally ripped off.

I don’t get the tsundere at all. The lights go off, he gets a flashlight, she comes out of the shower naked on her own (doesn’t put on a towel), he hears her voice and naturally shines the light on her, he sees her and covers his eyes, and she hits him.

She was entirely at fault here. (sigh), maybe I’m just getting too old for these kind of shows.

    • Aex says:

Oh come now, she wouldn’t be a tsundere if she didn’t beat the guy when he’s trying to help her. That’s one of the most basic traits of a tsundere :P Of course, she’ll never admit she was at fault no matter what happens. *sigh*

      • kewlmyc says:

Not all tsunderes hit their targets. Shana is one of the most well known tsunderes and she never hit Yuji once. Don’t act like being violent is something all tsunderes have in common.

I don’t even have a problem with tsunderes that hit their targets. I just have a problem with ones that hit their targets over stupid crap. Chidori from FMP hit Sousuke a bit, but he ALWAYS deserved it. I also hate it when it happens in every episode. It gets highly repetitive. This reasons are why Naru from Love Hina and Louise from ZnT are some of my most hated characters in anime.

    • Silver says:

Well, that’s how a tsundere is supposed to be. Personally, that trait to me is “whatever” as I don’t hate it and don’t like it either although sometimes it does get me laughing as in this case.

  • Silver says:

Actually I thought the end was not really a “reset” as she did not really outright deny but in fact deny in a fun and happy manner just as hashi had said so that’s definitely different than the usual. Overall, I thought this episode was excellent and the best so far with the 1st episode coming in second while the 2nd is just… meh.

But if she says it’s a lie, that must mean it’s true! But if it’s true, then she must be telling a lie! *BLEEP BLOOP BLEEP KABOOM!*

I thought it was a really sweet episode overall. The fact that it showed orphans actually going through a mental process like that is pretty amazing for anime. Instead of /headwall “ANGST. ANGST. ANGST.”, we got a “We worked through it and became happier with our lives, and you can too”. Which is a HUGE anime step I think.

And it wasn’t as must as melodramatic as it was to make you actually feel worried for Nozomi and the rest of the crew.
