Shin Koihime Musou OT #01 — Ancient Chinese Turkey Baster

March 26th, 2010

Well, I watched it. I guess I can post something.

I was in a good mood after Ikkitousen and had 30 minutes to kill before 30 Rock, so I decided to watch this. Never mind that I haven’t seen more than about 40 minutes of the first two seasons combined… so… uh… INDEED

Impressions:

Well… I was interested in the start. Nothing like a good old poisoning to kick off a show. Sadly, it was revealed at the end that the result of the poisoning was that Kanshin grew cat ears, and thus the cast went shuffling off to go find some assorted widgets in order to get rid of them. The middle ten minutes were about Ryuubi thinking that she was getting pudgy, while at the same time, her strange behavior made the rest of the cast think that she was pregnant. There was much debate over who the ‘father’ was, although… well, I have no idea how the physics of artificial insemination in ancient China are supposed to work, especially between two females.

It wasn’t really that bad, and it was far far far better than I remember the very first season being (and for that matter, how bad I’ve heard that the first Shin season was), but considering that only my good knowledge of Ro3K kept me even vaguely close to having any clue what was going on, I’m not sure I want to put in the effort to play catch up, especially since this episode wasn’t really that good. We’ll see though. It might be kind of fun to go on an Ro3K bender this season.

Well duh…you have to watch the first and second season to know who’s who especially with tons of characters in this anime…

  • MisaoFan says:

aroduc do not watch the first two seasons because of poor quality.

  • Jack Damn says:

The first & second season were “run of the mill” shows. You would hate them more than you usually do.

Mostly forgettable plots and characters that wander a small middle Earth domain.

Lots of strong, righteous women doing “good” things for the world. The men, however, are typical male scum (lying, lecherous, fat, etc.) Except for one “doctor” who understands constipation.

I watched both seasons (and I’ll watch the 3rd) merely for the character designs, cute use of chibi characters and some of the VA work.

Other than that, I wouldn’t recommend the series to anyone who wasn’t already in a coma.

As long as you’re just looking for something to laugh at, they’re good shows. The best part about them is that they almost never take themselves seriously, except maybe at the ending of each season. The good guys always do good things, and the stupid get duped into doing bad things. Very Generic, very basic, lots of cute/hott female characters.

Oh, and lots of yuri innuendos but no actual yuri scenes. Mostly used for funny reactions, although most of the girls are openly gay.

  • Jack Damn says:

Oh, and the animation quality is horrendous. Lots of pans on stills with grunts and battle cries in season one.

  • Hyosuke says:

Holy… the way the opening is this season might actually relate closer to the game. Its a miracle!….but thats probably false hope on my part.

Where did you watch this before the torrents are out?

  • shadow says:

other anime with more cute girls and boring episodes.
japan… fans of fanservice and yuri

  • Roze says:

    wao all so cute ~_~

  • Jack Damn says:

Wow…the opening animation for this season was of higher quality than the first two seasons combined. I feel like I’m watching Slayers: Try.

  • chad001 says:

Dammit… it was at least funny cause it didn’t take itself seriously, but if the OP is anything to go by, then ugh…. it’s trying to get serious…
If I were you I’d check out the VN, coming… well, in like, 2 weeks. It has like… 2 lesbian jokes, gameplay… and a non-lecherous male… oh… and the main character is well-informed with the 3 Kingdoms (even though he’s friggin JAP!) and he’ll tell you who each and everyone of them is.

two ROTK based animes in a row~
