Asura Cryin’ #14 — Large Hadron Collider

September 30th, 2009

Dammit, science!

I feel a little bad thinking to myself, "Man, I hope this is a recap episode because I barely remember character names… and something about a displacer beast and the sister who wants the dildo so she can stop melting?"

Impressions:

And luckily, this was a recaptastic episode for the first 5 minutes and featured, among other things, Tomo walking in on a half-dressed Takatsuki, and then Takatsuki drenching herself with a hose. In between those two things, we got an entire rundown of most of what happened, why we no longer care about the dildo, and a recap of most everybody’s powers, mostly used on Tomo. And then they followed a murderous squeaky koala doll into a labyrinth under the school’s pool. It was one of those kinds of episodes.

The most interesting things about this episode for me were all the crazy stuff in the OP and the start with what appears to be the first world’s Tomoharu and Misao, although the later revelation that it was some kind of Large Hadron Collider experiment gone wrong was a little lame. I’m a little unhappy with the almost total reset of the final arc from the first half and the sort of silly killer Koala. At least… uh… whose his face with the killer wolf had… well… a killer wolf. I guess I am happy that they did shed a lot more light on that without being anywhere near as confusing or adding any more nonsense vocabulary words. I think I learned more about the plot of this show from that vision as I did from the entire first season. We even got a kiss between Misao and Tomo as well as handholding between Takatsuki and him. I do kind of dread the possibility that Naotaka could be 1st world Tomoharu, but hopefully they’ll surprise me.

So overall, I’m very pleased with how this episode started. The action was decent enough, they recapped to aid my failing memory, and they look like they’ve pulled the story together… all that without even getting into all the stuff from the OP. Bravo, Seven Arcs.

Just a reminder, I have three straight hours of class tomorrow, plus another hour of lovely mass transit home at the time when shows normally start appearing on the interbutt for the next few months. Don’t get your panties in a twist just because I’m a few hours later than normal. I spoil you guys as it is… with low quality caps. Or something.

In a ruined world, Tomo gives the go ahead on some project.

Back in the other world, Tomo and Misao are worried about Takatsuki overexerting herself so rush to the club room. They find her half undressed, so Ania sucks away all of Tomo’s luck, resulting in him being set on fire and then having water dumped on him.

Reishirou and Tohru show up, with Reishirou still pissed about Tomo being one step away from an Asura Cryin’, as well as his other issues. Tohru steps in and declares that she’s in charge of them and tells him to back off. As punishment for the trouble they’ve caused recently, she makes them go clean the school pool. On the way there, Ania sees a koala, but it disappears into an empty corner.

Everybody starts cleaning the pool until Ania notices the koala again and runs off to chase it down. She follows it underground and the rest chase after her. Tohru stops by to check in on them and finds that the pool hasn’t even been drained yet, so does that.

Underground, they’re a bit lost. They finally see the koala, but the pool’s drained water knocks them all over and sweeps Shuuri away. The koala shows up again and the team gives chase.

The koala starts springing various traps on Tomoharu and tries to sort of kill him. Tomo survives most of them by luck alone, so the koala eventually brings them to a huge technological chamber.

Tohru gets an alarm that the chamber’s been entered. Back in it, the koala throws a rock at the guardian drones to provoke them. The rest of the team runs away and finds a new chamber with a giant glass ball.

Misao floats over to it and touches it. Tomoharu gets sucked into a vision of another world. Misao is alive, and apparently he’s very close friends with both her and Takatsuki. There’s also a high science building nearby that they visit where the scientists are working on a black hole generator.

The experiment goes out of control and the surrounding area is devestated. Life goes on, but the world is disappearing and nobody knows how to stop it. Because of the black hole, the worlds are colliding and theirs is being wiped away. Misao is also disappearing.

She and Tomo share a kiss before she’s put into the glass sphere. Takatsuki and Tomo stand together and swear to save their world as they open the magic briefcase (I forget what they were called).

Back in the real world, Tomoharu collapses. Shuuri attacks some of the guardbots and rejoins the gang.

Takatsuki is also fighting them off and Tohru and You show up as well to engage in some wanton bot slaughter while the rest retreat. Safely outside, Tomo learns that Misao didn’t see anything, but Takatsuki did, and she tells him that it wasn’t an illusion, but a vision of the first world.

Ania interrupts them and wants to keep the koala. Tomo denies it, so she works out a little play where she pretends to win over its trust. Tohru steps in and grabs the thing. She makes it introduce himself. He’s the missing club president.

“I do kind of dread the possibility that Naotaka could be 1st world Tomoharu”
But don’t they show that there’s a 1st world Naotaka when they visit the science building?

    • Aroduc says:

Misao mentions him, but they never show anybody, and when they go this far out of the way to hide someone’s face, it generally means that showing it is going to be a ‘surprise.’

Misao’s also long since ‘dead’ in the second world, so it’s not out of the question that something could have happened to Naotaka, especially with the plane crash that half the cast seemed to be involved in still hanging over our heads.

I feel good about this. The first season was a bit slow, but this looks like stuff is gonna get done. I think the break between the seasons might have given the show a bit of a spring to it, too.

I’m really looking forward to the stuff in the OP.

  • Gil says:

Is that Koala supposed to be the “Kon” of Bleach?

  • Lero says:

Watching again the OP that masked guy reminds me Higachi

  • Irie says:

I had to re-watch the recap just to see if I missed something. I’m under the impression Tomo did something that hasn’t been explained to resurrect Misao Looking at the OP, it seems Tomo has direct control over his mech. Possibly freeing Misao as the mech’s spirit. I guess when the mech is released we’ll get the full background story.

Production value seems pretty high this season.
