Princess Lover! #02 — Revisionist History

"Eh, we didn’t like that part of the episode, let’s change it."

Impressions:

When the nearly 2 straight minutes of flashback started, I rolled my eyes. Then I noticed that they seemed to be going on longer than the original events had. Lo and behold, Sylvia’s shadow fencing and her fight with Teppei both had significant added animation from the previous episode. In a way, it’s kind of disturbing to think that they’re semi-randomly adding things to flashbacks. Thankfully it wasn’t anything particularly important and actually made watching them a little less tortuous, but who on earth even does that?

As for the rest of the episode… meh. It was mostly just an introduction to the other two girls, neither of which are as interesting as Saber Sylvia or Charlotte. Seika’s got her own little girl harem and is off being moralistic over things (and shares the same black hole panties as Charlotte), while Yuu is about as stereotypical a maid as you can get. She didn’t even mind Teppei drooling in his sleep on her pillows. Maybe if she had taken Teppei up on his suggestion to take a motorcycle to school, she could at least rock the biker chick look, but no… she’s boring and lame. The maid legion doesn’t even have maid triplets in charge of comforting Tarou Teppei at night. What kind of half-assed maid army is this?

It was just a very predictible episode from start to finish. Not terrible, but not as cool as the first one either. I’m glad that Teppei’s getting a real sword next episode. Maybe it’ll offset the cheesy "she looks lonely while fencing" from the end of this one. I’d also like to note that foil fencing so does not work like that, nor does it come even close to being anything like sword fighting. It’s not a real foil fencing match unless it takes the judges at least a minute to sort out who had the right of way on the attack. And if they’re fencing with epee rules using foils… well… that would just be nonsense!

    hm… first to post~
    looks good~
Sylvie got jealous and what a scene between Teppei and Charlotte~!

  • Hinano says:

it looks like her boob is gonna fall off into her teacup

  • kadian1364 says:

Didn’t know fencing gear fit that tightly…

  • Chimasternmay says:

    Gambate(<something like that?) Sylvia.

  • Irie says:

Can you even fence with a Katana? Seems like it might just cut a limb or head. It was a pretty good intro episode. Get all the secondary characters out of the way.

I think introducing him as the heir of the the mega conglomerate takes away from the drama. Makes the show more slapstick comedy.

    • karasu says:

Well, you can stab with a katana…but it’s definitely not something that should be used to fight a foil, if Sylvia is using a rapier it might seem more logical.

      But why make sense \(~_~)/

      • Passing Stranger says:

If Sylvia were fencing sabre, the style might look a bit better against a katana, although I have my doubts that a sabre could parry any real edged weapon. For starters, it is the lightest of the three fencing weapons.

Also, the comparisons between certain characters would be even more deafening than they are already…

      • Aroduc says:

Considering that fencing swords are made to bend to an almost 180 degree arc, they’re not going to do much damage aside from bruising or maybe raising a welt with a slash.

Even if she had the rapier that she was using in episode 1, those were always designed as dress swords for nobility with really fancy hilts, not something that anybody would actually want to use in a real fight.

        • neir says:

My fencing coach lost a chunk of his rib during Epee fencing. Right through his breastplate, too. Since right of way in Epee scoring is determined solely by speed, people attack with full force. That’s why I stick to sabre. And Saber. I’m rooting for the fiance.

  • Anon999 says:

Looks like Sylvia is well stacked in every outfit she wears, or the animators just drew her that way.

And Charlotte comes off as being coy and childish to me..

Teppei’s got moves, I’ll give him that.

  • Passing Stranger says:

Well, I haven’t seen the episode so I’ll have to take your word for it regarding the fenc…good God, are they doing sabre cuts with foils? Ms. Overly-endowed there looks like she’s going to fall over the moment she attempts to lunge, assuming that she even knows what that is. And don’t get me started on her opponent…

Well, at least the foil lamés cover roughly the correct target area…and it looks like they didn’t have the budget to animate the rest of the scoring equipment. Not that I blame them.

Thank you sir, for screencap #72. It’s actually kind of funny if you’re at all familiar with the sport.

  • kei says:

fun fun fun, this is something I’m looking forward to in addition to bakemono – I wish Aroduc would add a detailed synopsis, not just impression if he’s able to understand japanese thought, cause fansub of this may take days…

    • Aroduc says:

Next week probably. This was a really long day and after the two minutes of flashback at the start, I kind of stopped taking notes like I usually do.

  • Nanaya says:

Is it just me, or are there a lot of references to FSN this season (some direct, some not-so-direct *coughmanageablemagiccough*)?

  • jeffng9 says:

well in case you didn’t notice when ricotta first released this game most of the ppl play this game because sylvie looks 90% like saber. Everyone is like shouting saber here and there and so on.

i don’t really see sylvia look like saber though thier hair style are almost the same or should i say the same?

yup teppei definately have the moves~ this stunning scene : http://blog.seiha.org/images2/princess2/princess2_59.jpg
hahaha looks like they incorporate some h scenes into the anime~

well this is the second time i see this scene ever since one of my fren did that sort of same action to a girl by accident in front of the whole class~ really kinda remind me of my fren’s situation. XD

  • Irie says:

I found it amusing when Sylvia took off during the homeroom scene. Really didn’t expect her to take off like that. Charlotte is a pretty lovable character. I find her charming. It’s pretty interesting how quickly she staked a claim on Teppei. Served to also quiet all chaos in the classroom. Well, it’s now up to Sylvia to recover in her own way. Not too sure I care for the new girl. Seems like she is looking for a suger-daddy.

  • Albedo says:

you know… she really does look a lot like saber now that you mention it.

This seems like a pretty cut and dry “pink-haired girl wins the Harem race” show but I can always hope for a twist in the end.

Personally I vote for the fiance saber-look-alike. The maid and the school girl both annoy me and I have something against pink-haired protagonists.

  • jeffng9 says:

hm i have to agree with Irie, i really like charlotte as well~ i like the in game seika more though despite her bitchy anti attitude towards teppei in game but i still like her!! dere dere characters just rocks for me XD.

    @albedo
i would be surprise to hear that u are not a hinagiku fan if u did watch hayate. how about other pink hair characters for example like lacus clyne?

For now yes charlotte leave the deepest impression on teppei’s mind for now who knows what the other 3 will do~
Sylvie , Seika & Yuu are all candidate as well~! I hope they don’t end up dissapointing like just slap a big magnet on teppei and every girl became his for no reason.

    • Albedo says:

honestly I don’t like pink haired heroins. They always seem to be happy and have really thick plot armor. If at any point a character deviates from the standard pink hair stereotype I can appreciate that character. Otherwise pink hair = lose

  • jeffng9 says:

ok i was browsing around and guess what i found~

  • The Phantom says:

I kind of liked this episode, I’m fond of the blonde (tsundere?) charcater: sylvia, aka saber, but I guess that the show is biased towards hime sama.

I am ranking this anime second best among the ones airing atm, only behind phantom. It has powefully caught my attention with a fast pace and very likeable characters. Saber FTW ^_^!

  • MADAO says:

PFFFF…. Charlotte= LAME, Yuu=Boring, Seika= Fucking flat chest overrated Tsundere, now have no more doubt about my fav girl being Sylvia, unless they decide to add some spice by having the 2 girls accompanying Seika to also fall for Teppei, those two are far more interesting than the others 3 IMO

  • karuroso says:

watched the epi with subs and it made more obvious that it will be Charlotte’s ending =/

  • ubu roi says:

I’ve been asking myself, just how does she manage to make those spinning attacks with those enormous weights on her chest. Seems to me like that much mass in motion at high speed might cause the earth to develop an irregularity in its orbit.

Hell, with weapons like that, does she NEED a sword for the extra reach? SPIN! SLAM! CRASH! FLAWLESS VICTORY!
