Chrome Shelled Regios #12 — Shakugan no Sharnid

March 28th, 2009

Although with the way this show spells things, it’s probably meant to be spelled Chainnah.

Impressions:

Not a bad episode, although I wish they had focused on one plotline or the other a bit more tightly. We’ve got both Sharnid squabbling with his former squad, although we’re not really told what happened yet, plus a pair of assassins out for Layfon’s head. They’re pretty heavily insinuating that Sharnid had some kind of crush on Shana (Shaina? drill girl) or at the very least, she doesn’t really get why he and Lin (Din? Eldin? baldy… stupid names) now despise each other. That could go any number of ways, but with this show, Occam’s Razor is usually the best bet. Layfon’s fight with some guy whose name is entirely too long for me to try to puzzle out was pretty well done too. It’s probably the first time Layfon’s been seriously menaced in the series, although the fault was with his dite and he managed to force the kid to retreat anyway. I have nothing to say about his archer sidekick yet except that she looks boring.

They did stylistically make a few interesting changes this episode to show off the super human abilities of the characters a little more, but aside from just noting it, I really don’t have too much to say about that. I don’t think anybody was really hoping for a closeup of Nina’s ear or Sharnid’s eye anyway. Almost no Felli at all this episode, which made me sad, but she did manage to get in some violence against a helpless street light. The bouncy ball Danger Room was about seventeen shades of silliness, especially since they spent time just chatting in it. The Hellsing-esque Engrish portion was also especially weird this week. I keep hoping it’ll make sense with the rest of the show eventually, but it’s looking less and less likely that it’ll make sense at all.

Sorry, no summary this week. Watching NCAA hockey regionals. It was about 95% setup with assumably explaination coming next week anyway.

Preview:

Sharnid and McLongName get down to business.

  • Lollerman says:

Here’s my thoughts on the engrish. If you remember back to when the queen looked in leerin’s eyes and saw the weird wolf, and then inside that eye was the girl who’s driving the vehicle. if you look at the dude, he kinda looks like an older Layfon, only with an eye missing. So perhaps this is actually what’s happening in the future.

Course, this is just my opinion, and may not be accurate.

  • Furuba says:

@Lollerman: intersting theory o.o;; it may explain why it all looks so futuristic and dark… but if layfon turns out like that… ew NO D8!!!
