Casshern SINS #22 — Zen

That was deep, Dio.

Thanks for eating my post, WordPress. Been awhile since that happened. *sigh* Unfortunately, being forced to write this for a second time has really drained the anger out of me and replaced it with a cold hard ball of sarcastic frustration.

Impressions:

Dio himself said that the reason for them to fight is irrelevant, which is perhaps the most intelligent thing any character on this show has said to date because Dio seriously has absolutely nothing to do with the plot anymore. I think it’s just a plan to stretch out the time a little bit so the writers can desperately scramble to find a way to wrap things up. Lord knows the characters are still all fumbling around without any idea what to do. Two episodes left, and they still have no real clue what they’re doing. Something’s wrong with this picture, and that’s not even taking into account the half dozen other plot holes so massive I could drive a yacht through. At this point, I think I’d just settle for one of them realizing that the little girl who appeared in a ball of light and instinctively hates the crazy vampire queen might somehow be worth taking a second look at.

I’d be a little more interested in the bits with Leda and Luna if they weren’t so obfuscated. First, Leda drinks Luna’s blood and heals her eye. Then her eye explodes because it’s not ‘true’ healing (keeping in mind that Casshern and Luna both have ‘true’ healing from this same brand of immortality). So Leda decides that she needs more, which makes her convulse in pain, turn white, and smile so crazily that the Joker would be proud. Of course, in the next episode preview, her eye is gone again.

Maybe we’ll at least get a watchable Dio/Casshern fight next week, as meaningless as it is, but given how bad the action has been in the second half, I have a hard time even caring.

Preview:

2 episodes left. Let’s see what’s left that they can screw up.

10 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Yue says:

Mmmmm, they’ll stage a concert singing the opening theme. Casshern as lead vocalist, Dio gets a sazzy pink guitar, and Braking Boss handles the drums wearing a loincloth. ^_^

  • Aroduc says:

That… actually doesn’t sound that bad.

  • Eirias says:

Didn’t Casshern, you know… die last episode?

  • Aroduc says:

I don’t know, have you been paying enough attention to the previous 5 months of the show to note that he’s immortal?

  • antimateria says:

Tooru Furuya & Toshiyuki Morikawa duet of opening theme WANT.

But I liked Leda’s hair in this episode. They obviously spent the whole ep 22 budget on making it flowy n’ fluffy.
Also until this episode I was sure there will be 26 episodes, I don’t know what that assumption was based on but now I feel deceived. I guess.

  • Eirias says:

Yes, but I didn’t know he was THAT immortal.

  • Anarchial.Order says:

I’m keeping that for a quote book :) classic :D

“Yes, but I didn’t know he was THAT immortal.”

  • Hum says:

I thought the same , Casshern was really beaten up the last episode bleeding profusely looked like the only thing holding him together was his perforated suit, which i think is also immortal, even his collar regenerates. Oh yeah, Leda is disgusting.

I really like it and generally what they are doing with the 2nd half the series. In this episode Dio really develop an interesting dimension as a rival for Casshern. And Leda…Can’t wait to see what she will become.

  • TJ says:

An episode of moaning and groaning…

Oh well, we got our Casshern vs. Dio showdown. Nobody else is that important anyways.
