ToraDora! #19 — Fashion 911

February 11th, 2009

This week on a very educational episode of ToraDora…

Impressions:

Headlining this fashion disaster is Kitamura. I can only imagine the thought process that would lead him to believe that suspenders, pants, and a beard would be an appropriate ensemble for a Christmas party. It only adds to my belief that he’s actually into burly men and just wants to be whipped.

Second up would be the irritating friends who I have yet to deem important enough to remember their names. "So, how are you going to dress up?" "I’ll find the rattiest sweatshirt I can, and wear it." "Sweet! The Belicheck look! I’ll put my hair up in a rat tail. That’ll impress the women." "Good idea, and don’t forget it’s Christmas." "Ah, right. I’ll wear something Irish."

The runner up has to go to Kihara. Nothing says winter formal like a pair of short shorts and knee socks. I don’t care how great your ass is, you’re not going to make that work in 20 degree weather. Maybe the burning in her loins for Kitamura’s shirtless bod is what’s keeping the lower half of her body warm.

What really stuck out in my mind about this episode was how badly it ended. I realize that it was a good song, and both of them sung it very well, but the last shot of every member of the cast was them in tears. Happy Christmas is not exactly the correct tone for that scene. Again though, at least it was pleasant to listen to, if a bit awkward both times they shoved it in.

The Ryuuji and Taiga stuff was laid on pretty thick this episode too, which makes all the other relationship sides seem rather forced. He left the party, dressed up like a bear to fulfill her childhood dream, pranced around, and then let her straddle him… and then remembered "oh right, I bought some tacky watch for this other girl and left her a voice mail." Really, Ryuuji? The one that you can only be bothered to leave a 5 second voice mail is the one that’s more important to you? Is anybody swallowing that?

At least Minori shot him down at the end after walking in on Taiga screaming out Ryuuji’s name in the street like some kind of psychotic killer. I doubt Ami will fair too much better either since they seem to just making her become more and more frustrated with Ryuuji. I imagine they’ll have her scream out her confession of love for him in an episode or two and that’ll be the ‘big dramatic finish’ after they spend an episode or two on Ryuuji moping over Minori… like it was ever in doubt who he’d end up with. Of course, Taiga hasn’t decided that she loves him yet either, just that she doesn’t want to lose him, so I expect that to be ‘big surprise funtime drama’ too.

I’m tired of the holidays now. Can we move on?

  • Ryan A says:

    Is anybody swallowing that?

No, it’s so terrible… he’s the worst, almost.

  • Haesslich says:

Straddled by Taiga wearing that? Damn that bastard for running out on her.

  • TJ says:

Yeah, not exactly a Merry Christmas for any of the main characters except for Kitamura (who must be high on something and isn’t really a main character anymore). And yes, damn Ryuji for running out on Taiga.

Good thing about this episode is that at least Minori made up her mind. Just don’t expect Ryuji and Taiga to follow suit any time soon though.

when i saw 20 degrees i for a moment thought thats varmth. Then i remembered, oh it´s farenheit. The weird measurment. If i recall right 100degrees is body temperature right? in celsius it´s about 37. and the freezing point lies at 0.

  • Aroduc says:

98.6 is the standard ‘normal’ body temperature, but it can vary by person. 100 would be a pretty far outlier, but probably not actually a fever. More like light exercise.
