ToraDora! #17 — Nikoniko Happy Christmas

January 28th, 2009

Too bad they couldn’t spell ‘Merry’ correctly.

Impressions:

Well, we did get a little bit of Minori and Ami’s rivalry over Ryuuji this episode, but it was pretty minor in comparison to everything else. Most of it was just Minori angsting quite a bit and refusing to go to the Christmas party. Instead, we get a lot of welcome silliness after the awful Kitamura angsting, some creepily cheerful Taiga, and… just what I had hoped for, MORE BLOODY KITAMURA CRAP towards the end. Poor Konoka Kafuka Kihara clearly deserves better. Let’s match her up with Ami instead of stupid Kitamura. Can we throw him off a bridge into a laser-shark filled pool suspended over a volcano yet? Inko actually sort of carried on a conversation this episode as well, which is disturbing in its own right.

I’m glad that it moved back to being a bit more light hearted, but the episode seemed a bit undirected. It started off with Minori angsting, then she was bald and ranting, then back to angsting, then completely disappeared for the last half of the episode and seemingly wants no part of the coming stuff while we suddenly shift gears to Kihara trying to hook Ryuuji up with Taiga so she can have Kitamura. Oh well, like I said, the less Kitamura, the better, and he’s even somewhat alright when he’s being as weird as Minori. Tougher on the ears and eyes for sure, but at least it’s something.

I really don’t like the new OP or ED at all. They basically replaced all the attitude with winter coats and wind. Meh.

And yes, I’m currently watching Rakkyo #5. I’m 30 minutes in… which means another 90 minutes to go. This one is about three times as long as the last one. Oi…

Second Opening

Preview:

Christmas in February.

  • […] (”I remember when this guy was a side character,” right?) I can see a lot of people complaining about this already, but I’m up for anything that gives my favorite Nonaka Ai more voice time. […]

what’s going on between this girl(unknown) and Ryuuji

  • Anonym says:

That girl is one of the SISTERS of Misaka Mikoto, Last Order.

Srsly she kinda resembles Mikoto with a mix of Kuroko there…

  • Yue says:

She is MISAKA. [draws binocs… here put this on] ^o^

I sort of understand where your coming from with that view, but I feel it actually made a lot of sense if you break it down as you can read below:

  • TJ says:

@Yue and Anonym: now that you guys mention it, Maya does kind of look like Misaka lol. Well I guess anime characters tend to look alike.

The new OP and ED are pretty average, but the good news (for Aroduc) is that Kitamura has been demoted in terms of appearance in both of the sequences.

  • Loz says:

Oh yeah also, is it just me or does Ryuuji’s mum look identical to Taiga here (Other than hair colour)

Definitely a lot of Taiga-x-Ryuuji this episode, I think.
When Taiga was posing as an angel with the chocolate donut halo, there was a small, almost unnoticeable blush on his cheek.

And that instant where his voice got all husky and deep, muttering “Chigau” was incredibly sexy. The soul-searching he did near the end of the eppy was hinting at his obviously growing affection for Taiga too.
I think this was a pretty good episode. Even though many people are creeped out by extensive Taiga-smiles seen, I think they were pretty adorable. It sure gave me an optimistic feeling. :’D
