Casshern SINS #14 — Love Love Anime

January 7th, 2009

Where the hell did that come from?

Well, despite this show airing on Sundays now, if this week is any indication, apparently it’ll just show up some random day. Le sigh.

Impressions:

The first half of the episode was tremendously boring and the second half wasn’t much of an improvement until the end when it got more… unusual. Lots and lots of ranting about how much the same Dio and Casshern are, and Gramps somehow managing to completely lose Ringo in a swarm of refuges. At least the one that took her in was beheaded. That satisfied my need for blood a little bit. Don’t let the caps fool you, most of the Dio vs Casshern rematch was pathetic. They heavily overused "show a blur of motion, then a still of things in action, then maybe explode some nearby rocks and throw up smoke." Every now and then, there was some real movement, but certainly not enough to make it worth ripping for display, and I couldn’t help but think "Casshern… I CHOOSE YOU!" Lyuze seems to have upgraded her wrist knife though. Now it has super extension action. I’m not certain how that’s relevant, but maybe she’ll add a beam cannon or RPG in the near future now that she’s secured her spot as Casshern’s girlfriend.

Oh yes, about that…

The two big things of note this episode both happened at the very very end. First off, Casshern just suddenly stopped fighting Dio when Leda threatened "that woman," which meant that Casshern had to go help Lyuze to her feet and walk her off with his hand around her waist. An episode ago, she was still calling for his death. Now he’s feeling her up in front of small children. Robot relationships confuse me the hell out of me. The second thing of note is that the episode ends with somebody calling herself Luna. I’m not sold on her yet, especially one episode after the big "Yes, Casshern definitely killed Luna" reveal. She’s in the new ED (which is not the Johnny Cash ripoff) though, so I’m kind of hoping that she’s the last boss… some kind of fake Luna just taking advantage of the robot people.

I thought they fought in this animu.

Yes! A love story, I’m a sucker for any anime series masquerading as Sci~Fi Action when in fact they are “Love, Friendship, and Hope”. ^o^

This does not surprise me, Casshern has been a harem anime for a while now.

  • antimateria says:

That fight did have a little dragon-ballish feeling in it. In less than second they went from standing still to dark and light lines in the air. Overall the animating quality hasn’t gone down remarkably but that was quite sad.

    I lol’d. Hard.

I liked this episode. The fight reminds me the great battle between Goku and Cell in Dragon Ball. Even if it could be considered as lazy animation, well, I like the effect!

A little bit surprised by Lyuze and Casshern relationship evolution. But I don’t think that we could consider them as a couple yet, even if I thought they will come to this since a moment.

    2 minor remark:
First, Casshern, who was totally desperate is the last episode, is too quickly valiant.
Secondly, the way Leda interrupts the fight. The end of the episode was strange, with a Casshern simply leaving the fight, and Ringo. It’s disappointing after a great episode.
But well, I really enjoyed “Luna” returns. It could changes many things in the series.

  • TJ says:

The fight was kind of like Dragonball, but at least they didn’t do the “limbs moving very fast while other body part stood still” exchanges.

In the new ED, I wonder who the red haired girl that was lying beside Lyuze?

  • Eldar says:

It’s her sister, the one that died.
