Tales of the Abyss #11 — Dist Freakin’ Everywhere
December 6th, 2008
That’s a disquieting thought.
Impressions:
Well, I was wondering how they were going to stretch out Keterberg to last 20 minutes, and the answer was to cram Dist into every available oriface and stretch out the cutscenes. I did sort of like seeing the flashbacks into Jade’s past instead of just hearing about it, but from the game, I had gotten the impression that Jade was quite a bit older when he fell in love with Nebilim and became obsessed with the seventh fonon. I think that makes his story a bit more powerful than just some little puppy love with a Fullmetal Alchemist ending. Otherwise, not a ton of changes, just a languorous pace. They switched things up to Jade telling Luke about Nebilim instead of Nephry and threw in I think every single little aside from the game about Dist that random townspeople or skits reveal, but that’s about it.
Honestly though, a very uneventful episode that was about 50% flashback and 95% talking heads. Sure, I was expecting it to be pretty lame, but that doesn’t mean that I need to forgive it. At least Nephry is easy on the eyes. Those backgrounds on the other hand… What happened Sunrise? Forget how to animate moving backgrounds? Either that, or the party was competing in a race to be the slowest walkers ever while simultaneously whining about how cold it is.
