Macross SINS #08 — The Other Angel of Destruction

What’s with all these women robots?

Impressions:

Why are Dio, Casshern, and the old dude the only humanoid male robots in this series? We’ve been getting new females almost every episode for the last month and a half. If this turns out to be some kind of Dual: Parallel Trouble Adventures-esque sexism battle, I’m going to be very annoyed with everything. On the other hand, with the introduction of the singing robot Janice (Janis? Whatever), the Singing Princess (I think that’s what Lyuze calls her, though I didn’t go back to check), I’m not even really certain that the writers aren’t on heavy doses of psychotropic drugs any more.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, I think this episode was just too ridiculous for me to even pretend to analyze things in my usual ‘impartial’ (ha!) fashion. Of all the directions I expected, I didn’t think that we’d be getting a Macross episode about a singing robot. I think the height of the ridiculousness was when they made it to Baza (?) and there was a robot band waiting for them in the shadows with the lights off. They politely sat around in the dark while Janice and Casshern scurried about, then flipped on the lights and started applauding at just the right moment. It would probably have helped if the song was in German or French so I could have just tuned out and ignored the ridiculous lyrics. At least we got some nice action over it, even if at the end of the episode, I’m not really entirely certain what the point of any of this really was.

This is still tatsunoken anime, isn’t this?

  • Azure says:

Is it just me, or does that girl with the pink hair in the preview look an awful lot like Yuyuko?

  • Anonymous says:

I love the art and the action in this anime, but you can only go with that for so long before it gets redundant. When are they going to get around to the actual plot?

Unless someone didn’t tell me this was an episodic anime.

  • Solaris says:

This fucking EMO Kyashan pales in comparison with the old 70’s serie! There were feelings, social issues and a huge plot back then.

Now we only have this suggestive decaying atmosphere, and a weak main lead. There’s nothing more up now…

@Azure: Lol Yuyuko! I thought the same as you when i saw her… i’d like Mrs (9) to show up too! :P
