The Venture Brothers Season 3 Begins — My Stanza!!

June 1st, 2008

Oh god… Not the Stanza!!!!!!

Impressions:

I don’t really plan on covering this, since… you know… already in English and all, but I’d also feel remiss if I didn’t at least note the return of the funniest animated comedy on the air on either side of the globe. It actually technically starts broadcasting tomorrow night, but if you’re in the US (or can find a US proxy), you could be watching it online right now.

As for the episode, I realize this season is going to focus more on the secondary character, but this one just had a bit too much Doctor Girlfriend for my tastes. She’s fun when paired against the boys or Brock, but it was mostly just her on her own. I did get a chuckle out of the Guild’s suggestions for her theme. "Take a quick dip in a vat of boiling minks. They’ve been skinned, pureed, and pelted with gamma radiation." I also enjoyed her murderous moffets and their antics with the Henchmen. The Henchmen are always good for a laugh though. It did get significantly more funny at the end, but the episode still had no Brock, Orpheus, or the boys, which just made me sad.

I did think that the Manotaur joke after the credits was hilarious, and there were certainly enough laughs through the rest of the episode, but most of season 2 was a bit stronger in my mind. Still, it ended with a laugh, so I’m happy. Enough listening to me rant on though, go watch the episode yourself.

I thought this episode was a brilliant return to the show as I love the dynamics between the Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend. Plus, the Monarch’s flashback stupidity made it all worth it.

I’m pretty sure Dr. Killinger is in the next episode, but you’re right that the show needs more Dr. Orpheus.

Is Tim-Tom the Klockateer Dwarf in “Metalocalypse” ?, I think so. There is a cross-over in the talent that made both great shows possible.
