The Ruler of Nabari #13 — This Show is Silly

June 29th, 2008

What kind of crazy ninja clan is this?

Impressions:

Highlights of the episode:

  • Kumohira making out with his girlfriend with Kouichi leered and the girls looked aghast.
  • Yoite’s inability to wear a tie.
  • Miharu dressing Yoite.
  • Yarrrrrrrrrrr Buccanear Ninja.
  • Yoite’s inability to wear a scarf.
  • Ninjas with slingshots.
  • Lolis in capes.
  • Fat ninja girls tackling Miharu.

So really, as far as Nabari goes, this episode was top of the line. Yeah yeah, something about a power struggle within Koga or whichever ninja clan this is, I wasn’t really paying particularly close attention through the first half. School principle/ninja master dying and ninja swashbuckler teacher formenting chaos by having his cronies attack the invited Banten/Ash Wolves in the middle of the night. See? Ninja action. This is what I like to see. There was at least as much action in the episode as there was in the OP, even if some of it was from a girl with a slingshot. I do question how intelligent that somewhat tubby ninja is for tackling Miharu down the stairs. A solid push would have probably done as much good, but hey, if she wants to risk back injuries too, more power to her.

The important thing is that it amused me, even if quite a bit of it was unintentional. That shot of Yoite busting down a door with his pretty pretty scarf flailing for example. Hilarious. He’s like a great big angsty teddy bear.

  • Kresnik says:

Never liked this series from the beginning. The studio pick the wrong story this time, try again.

  • Tokki says:

Due to the lack of action I really don’t count this as a action anime. More like,..drama. But I was thinking. Yoite only has what?,…a month or so to live,so at least he has friends and ppl who care about him,….well that least that’s how I see it. He isn’t completely alone.

  • Sakura says:

If you don’t like the anime then why don’t you just stay away from it?

  • Anca says:

They really toned down everything – the humor, the action, Raikou’s awesomeness, Miharu’s personality, Thobari’s angst, even the Miharu/Yoite BL.

…I shouldn’t read the manga in the middle of watching an ongoing series. It /always/ ruins it.

  • Mint says:

Nabari isn’t supposed to be some action-packed shounen ninja anime… it’s more about character development than anything. But the anime failed to get that point across so we’re left with so many people complaining about the lack of action and ninja-ness. I don’t like how the animators kind of half-assed everything and cut down so many things from the manga… The anime really pales in comparison to the original. Oh well, I shouldn’t have set my expectations so high for J.C. Staff anyways(should have learned by now that they don’t stick to the original very well… eek).

    That being said…

  • Twirble says:

Well this is one of my favorite anime at the moment and I don’t understand why people are unhappy with it. I also don’t understand why people waste a thought on anime they don’t like, but to each their own.

That being said, I want you to keep blogging about it cause you crack me up LOL! Even though you diss it I like your sense of humor:).

  • Anca says:

But the Raikou background / Gau’s unconsciousness was really better handled in the anime, imho. It was heartwrenching to actually *hear* Raikou break down in sobs.
