Prism Ark #09 — Magical Girl Lyrical Theresa

December 3rd, 2007

A transformation sequence? How delightful.

If you missed it in the AYAKASHI entry… I’ve decided to skip Rental Magica this week. Between the time I fell asleep and woke up, it was subbed twice. Go watch it yourself, meatbag.

Impressions:

The first half of the episode was pretty forgettable. I really didn’t need to sit and watch Echo and Kisarov reminisce about old times and pontificate at length about nothing in particular. I did find the shots straight from Echo’s cleavage to be funny. They enlivened an otherwise very very boring 10 minutes. The second half of the episode was great. Karin’s no dummy, and she immediately went after Theresa. Priecia didn’t get her panties in a bundle over going after Hell either. The transformation sequence made me laugh, as did the fact that Priecia’s Mirage Rush (Lash? Whatever… looks more like her Southern Cross to me) blew off all of Sister Hell’s clothes except her panties and her hat… and let’s not even talk about Theresa basically pole dancing on a giant cross while talking to Karin. All the obvious clues about the Darkness Knight’s identity are also totally new, as is Hyaweh beating him down in their first encounter. That seemed a bit strange and unnatural. Here we have the menacing evil overlord lurking in the corner… who takes a dagger to the forehead in the first encounter with the hero. Maybe the writers got confused and realized that they had to introduce and wrap up the Darkness Knight plotline before they could get to the Angel hybr whoopsies… almost spoiled the last bosses.

I still have absolutely no clue how they’re going to wrap this up in three episodes. Maybe they’re really strongly jonesing for a sequel series and it’ll just end where the show began. I think that would make me want to kick puppies. Still, now that Priecia is out of her stupid little whiny rut, we can get back to the good stuff; more shots of Hyaweh licking her (or her licking Hyaweh… eh? eh?) and other assorted general carnage.

Theresa/Hell vs Karin/Priecia

The Darkness Knight Attacks

Sorry, bulletpoint summary this week. I’m a little short on time and not much happened outside of the action (which I ripped) in the second half.

  • Acty et all confront the ruffians that were with Priecia last episode and demand her location.
  • Theresa runs into Bridget and recognizes her.
  • Echo and Kisarov catch up on old times. She’s been hiding in Gerod’s court.
  • Kisarov reminds her of the child they found in a crater in a pod with Ala Gladius, Hyaweh
  • A quick introduction to the Tempel Ritter (Karen’s old unit), basically witch hunters out to exterminate heretics.
  • Karen and Hyaweh head to Theresa’s abbey.
  • Echo, Hell, and Theresa all flashback through the Tempel Ritter attacking a church where Theresa took care of children. She fled, but because she saw the experiments being performed by the Tempel Ritter, ended up losing her faith and killing the children (naive Karen’s conclusion… actually killed by the TR). Karen was the one to find the corpses as well as one not-quite-dead girl that died in her arms.
  • Back in the present, Karen immediately goes after Theresa, but Theresa blasts her away and transforms into Sister Hell.
  • Karen is no match for her and is almost killed until Priecia and Hyaweh step in. Hyaweh’s still a bit too injured to effectively fight though.
  • Priecia takes on Hell, and under pressure, uses her Mirage Rush to win, completely blasting away all Hell’s clothes except the panties and hat and breaking Sister Hell’s sword.
  • She then offers Hell the prism that Theresa rejected. Hell reaches for it, but an explosion rocks the building. The Darkness Knight appears and attacks.
  • Priecia, Karen and Hyaweh all try to attack, but are blasted away.
  • The Darkness Knight demands to see the power of the sword, but it’s planted in the ground and won’t come loose.
  • Priecia leaps over Hyaweh and attacks. The Darkness Knight slams her away, but her watch falls out of her shirt and the Darkness Knight flashes through memories of young Meister chasing after Princea and her giving him the watch.
  • The Darkness Knight attacks again, but Hyaweh draws his dagger and slams it into the Darkness Knight’s forehead.
  • Echo excuses herself from Kisarov and he thinks about the Tempel Ritter.
  • Priecia wakes up, but Theresa and the Darkness Knight are gone.
  • Hyaweh hands her the girl’s prism and tells her that it’s a promise to end this together. The rest of the school chums yell to them from outside the ruined church.

5 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

The entire Echo sequence was just for plot exposition, since they finally realized that they only have 3 episodes left.

Anyway, Teresa never killed the children! The Tempelritter did that while Teresa was trying to escape with them. She didn’t even lose her faith after she saw the experiments, or had the Tempelritters spearing the children; it took even more than that before she finally felt betrayed by her god. I doubt they’ll go into this in the anime though, since they only heavily implied it in the game as well, but well, she and a couple of the kids get stuck in a limestone cave escaping from the tempelritter, can’t find a way out, get very VERY hungry, and… well, I guess I know why she’s vegetarian now.

I have to say though, the pole dancing has to be one of the most WTF moments I’ve seen recently. The licking is actually almost in the game, only Litte suggests Hyaweh do it in her route, while Hyaweh thinks something like “I kept looking, but there wasn’t any opportunity that wouldn’t look too weird.”

Another hint about Darkness (or Black in the anime, no idea why they changed his name…) Knight’s identity is when Priecia says “heika” after Hyaweh breaks the prism. I suppose that makes it a clue as to her own paternity as well…

They also changed the ages and made Hyaweh/Filia underage to about 16, while in the game they’re around 20.

Well, that’s what Karen thought in this version unless I missheard something. Or at least that Theresa was responsible. *shrug*

I have read too many spoilers, but anyway, I know better Prism Ark than before. And about the “Last Bosses” they have a relation with the flashbacks of Theresa?(that green capsules showed in the previous episode) and something with Fel?

On a lame villains of anime scale where Nrvnqsr Chaos is a 1 (most lame) and Kaito Foreland is a 10 (somewhat lame) Darkness Knight earns a -2 from me.
