No, this has nothing to do with Ouran, I just felt like saying that.
I have to admit that this was a bit more haremy and trashy than I expected. It took Kouichi three minutes and Mao getting naked before he even figured out why a strange woman was in his home… and then they went for the cheap bait-and-switch sex joke when Mao couldn’t sleep. Even Inukami used that kind of joke… though Yoko was actually moaning and trying to be seductive while Mao just sucks as racing games. Very vocally so.
Still, I found some of parts hilarious, namely the gorilla vs bear sentai filming and Nana snuggling with the gorilla head. I was also somewhat surprised towards the end at how they seem to be developing Aihara almost as much as Kouichi, plus the kiss between him and Futami was a pretty nice scene.
I’m really not quite certain what to make of Kimikiss so far. I liked it, but it’s a somewhat strange mix. Various parts of the usual JCStaff-stuff show through in different ways. A little bit of their trashy harem shows, some of the more serious Honey & Clover stuff (especially in the very light color palette) and a really nice OP and ED, though neither is particularly animated. Production values are otherwise pretty much exactly what you’d expect; the usual Nodame/H&C fairly minimal animation, but the art stays consistent and well drawn the entire time. Music seemed a little off in parts, but otherwise was fine. Lots and lots of piano.
With ef getting all anticipation, there’s a good bet that I’ll pick up Kimikiss because it really was pretty enjoyable, though I’m having some trouble putting my finger on exactly why. I think a lot of it may be because right when I was starting to get a little tired of Kouichi and Mao, they switched it up and tossed together Futami and Aihara, so there’ll be multiple stories developing all at once. We’ll see how next week goes I suppose. I’ll be out of town anyway, so I’ve got a little free leeway in my decision making process.
No summaries for the first episodes. I write as I watch, and I don’t know if I’ll care about a show until after the first episode.
