Fall Season Week #1 Wrapup

October 7th, 2007

Covering 30 shows in one week? Yeah, I feel a bit like Rein.

Also… how glad am I that I’ve been updating this as I’ve gone along? The answer is “Sooooooooooooooo glad.”

There’s pretty much nothing left that I have plans to cover. Genshiken (Tuesday) and Ghost Hound (Thursday) will be blogged by everybody under the sun, and Kodomo no Jikan (Wednesday) is just…. no… leaving Moyasimon (Thursday) and Shion no Ou (Saturday), neither of which look particularly interesting though with the clusterfuck on Thursdays already, who knows. I’ll at least hit up the first episodes of them and we’ll see from there.

Anyway, despite the fact that shows run the gamut of quality between “This show left a decaying plague-ridden clown on my lawn” and “this is so good that it gave me three wishes, a pot of leprechaun gold and a harem of nubile and accommodating women of loose moral virtue,” though the way some people talk about shows, you wouldn’t think there would be.

Regardless, there’s a limited amount of time in the day, and only so much that I can deal with, so here’s the quick list of all the shows over the past week (plus the ongoing ones I’m already following) plus a short blurb designed likely to annoy as many people as possible. If I wanted to be really lazy, I’d compared them to another show and just call it a day. :-P My goal is to finish them all within 10 minutes anyway. A lot of it is balanced between what I’ll be watching and what’s already being covered by half the blog-o-sphere. I suggest Omni, Totali and Hinano to fill in most of the rest of what I don’t hit up, but some things (I’m looking at you, Mokke) are probably just destined to go by the wayside.

The winner for the day gets a little crown. If you’ve got any input, flames, or desperate begging, go wild.

MONDAY

Da Capo II

A rehash of something I didn’t like in the first place… even though I know that wishes can’t stay real… oopsies… very nearly spoiled the whole thing.

Bamboo Blade

Definitely needs juuuuuuust a bit more comedy… as in… any comedy.

Sketchbook ~full colors~

Slice of life fun. Decent, but not enough to uproot Higurashi.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

Winner and still champion of the Seiha Monday Slot.

TUESDAY

Demon Detective Nougami Neuro

Starting off with something even the writer thinks sucks? And going to an anime original episode after that? Ew.

Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji

The nose knows! Doesn’t trump Night Wizard… or even Labyrinth for that matter.

Amazing Detective Labyrinth

Horie Yui as a Chinese assassin is perhaps the most entertaining casting of the season. We’ll see how this goes.

Night Wizard

Magic plus fighting plus choreography plus comedy plus strong leading hero = Tuesday Champion.

Blue Drop

Write some angry poetry and then whine about it in your diaries, girls.

Myself; Yourself

If any character in any show ever deserved a ball gag permanently in their mouth, it’s Aoi.

Mokke

Booooooooring. Somebody cut the ritalin to the girls or give them some coffee.

WEDNESDAY

Dragonaut – The Resonance

Ha HA! Gonzo. And the udders of immense backstrain.

Our Condolences, Ninomiya-kun

Is this really the best Wednesday has to offer? *sigh* I guess I’m stuck with it.

THURSDAY

You’re Under Arrest! Full Throttle

I didn’t really like the first season… or the second… or for that matter… the third.

Clannad

Everybody else and their dog is dealing with the sad girls in springtime. I say, good luck to ’em.

Shakugan no Shana II

The current leader for Thursdays. Sort of. It’s also pretty saturated, but there’s nothing else I’m interested in following, which leaves Shana and Clannad. At least there’ll be some nice action scenes to rip hopefully. Maybe Ghost Hound will distract them enough to let me sieze Shana all to myself.

FRIDAY

Shugo Chara

Surprisingly decent, if not for me being nowhere near the target audience. Still, Fridays are… sparse… as you can see… even if this does technically air on Saturday morning. At least there’s another week of Tokyo Majin to be irritated by. Maybe I’ll just take Fridays off.

SATURDAY

Mobile Suit Gundam 00

I’ve never watched more than 6 episodes of a Gundam series and I’ll be damned if I start now.

ef – A Tale of Memories

I love Shaft, but I’m not certain I have the wherewithal to follow them in a serious romance from week to week.

Kimikiss ~ Pure Rouge

Not a bad thing to pick up for Saturdays. Not wholly my thing, but it was still sufficiently entertaining… and I trust in JCStaff.

Maple Story

Best. Show. Ever.

SUNDAY

Rental Magica

I really enjoyed most of the first episode, but Sundays are really really packed, so we’ll see.

Prism Ark

I’ve been replaying the game to get myself psyched for this, so I’ll be damned if I don’t cover it.

Minami-ke

Somewhat fun slice of life, and I wish others good luck in dealing with the art and musical direction. Owie.

Jyushin Enbu

Genericest generic thing to ever be generic. Not that it’s bad, but man… Sundays are packed.

Kekkaishi

Kekkaishi starts back up next Sunday (yup, no longer a Tuesday morning show), but given how delayed and how much of a pain in the ass the raws are to get, god only knows what day I’ll actually cover it. Hell, maybe it’ll be the dedicated Friday show.

Short version: it looks like Higurashi, Night Wizard, Ninomiya, Shana, Kimikiss, Prism Ark, and Kekkaishi, with probably one of Rental Magica or Jyushin Enbu tossed in there too. All subject to change of course… it just feels good to write things out and actually be organized. Hooray for organization!

  • -saki- says:

    Wow (O.O) you got a tough schedule, that’s big…
The shows you’re blogging are really entertaining.
Please I beg of you, will you blog Shugo Chara….(^_^)

  • AznSoulBoy says:

haha u blog nonimya kun whatever it called. nice xD

  • sage says:

    JCStaffag. :-P

  • O.D says:

Don’t tire yourself out, man, even if there are shows you want to blog but your body doesn’t listen.

Shame, really, that you won’t be doing Gundam 00. The first episode showed good promise despite poor ratings. I guess the Kira and Lacus-tards are still out there clamouring for their pop idols.

Maybe if time and conditions allow, perhaps you will do Dragonaut?

  • […] you’re looking for a take on all 30+ shows I would reccomend one of the excellent summaries from somewhere else, but if you want overly biased harem / romance comparisons […]
